Rory Mates

Rory was called to the bar in 1993. Having spent 5 years at Peel House Chambers he was a founder member of 42 Castle Street with Charles Feeny and Alan Sellers. In 2002 he took and passed the California Bar Exam and in June 2003 he moved with his family to San Francisco to work for a law firm specialising in asbestos disease litigation on behalf of Claimants. Following the expiry of his visa he returned to the UK in 2006 and worked as in-house counsel for a firm of solicitors conducting personal injury and commercial litigation. In 2008 he returned to chambers and continues to act in all aspects of personal injury work. He also has considerable experience acting for Claimants in civil actions against the police.

When not practising law he spends time tending his ever growing menagerie of pigs, chickens and horses.
